Nest sites: Ceratina visits many different dune plants, but due to its diminutive size, is most easily sighted at nests. Females hollow out the stems of pithy plants, usually dune goldenrod (Solidago spathulata ssp. spathulata) and construct several nest cells per stem. Each cell contains provisions (a mixture of pollen and nectar) and a single egg. Individual cells are separated by a partition made from excavated pith. |
